Great Day Trip - Kathy & Phil Lamb

We left home around 9 headed towards Chattanooga on 41. We went through Tullahoma, Winchester, Cowan over Monteagle Mt., Tracy City. We made a stop at Foster Falls between Tracy City and Jasper. Look for sign on left, entrance on the right. You can take a short walk to see the falls or longer hikes to see more. Continued on 41 to Nickajack Lake and over the huge bridge on the Tennessee River. Watch for a sign to TVA Raccoon Mt. Pumped-Storage Plant on your left. If you catch the right time in the early spring it's very pretty with many Wisteria vines as you enter on the way to the visitor center and where you will find a great wildlife observation overlook with a view of the Reservoir. We were lucky and saw a bald eagle on one visit there. You can then circle the lake for a pretty view.         (http://www.tva.gov/sites/raccoonmt.htm)

We backtracked towards home and stopped in Tracy City and had lunch and a treat from the bakery at the Dutch Made Bakery and Cafe. This was featured on TN Crossroads.(TheDutchMaid.com)

Then we took 56 through Coalmont and Altamont and stopped for a hike back to Greeter Falls. It's a good hike if you do the upper/lower and Boardtree, Wear some hiking shoes!  NOT SANDALS !! It's about the same distance to the upper falls as it is to the lower falls. Boardtree Falls seemed much harder and longer hike but we were tired so that might have just seemed like it! Then on to Beersheba Springs, McMinnville and 70 to Woodbury, 64 to Bradyville and home through Beechgrove. Arrived home about 6:30 or 7, about 200 miles..
